Davina McCall shares 'heartbreaking' update on dad's Alzheimer's battle in moving post
Davina McCall has made the heartbreaking announcement about her father’s Alzheimer's battle.
The TV presenter, 53, took to social media to break the news with fans as she detailed her dear dad’s agonising battle.
In a heartbreaking post, Davina revealed that her dad, Andrew, is now in a nursing home due to his deteriorating condition.
The Long Lost Family host said her dad is being cared for in a wonderful home after her mum reached breaking point trying to look after her husband amid his battle.
To mark world Alzheimer’s day, Davina shared the honest post, admitting that the disease can have a devastating impact on a family as a whole.
Alongside a rare snap of the star with her dear dad, Davina opened up in the heartbreaking caption.
“This is my Mum and Dad. Dad ( Andrew is a total legend ) has Alzheimer’s,” she penned.
“My mum has cared for him so brilliantly. He is now in a wonderful home, where they take amazing care of him. It’s been hard on my mum but she was at breaking point.
"He is ok, but it is f***ing heartbreaking this illness.
"The worst thing is the loss of dignity. There are great inroads being made into new treatments. I heard of great hope of a new one in Australia very recently."
Davina went on to share some love to the thousands of other people who are also affected by the illness in the UK.
“2/3rds of Alzheimer’s patients are women. Taking hrt is known to reduce your risk of getting it.
“If you know anyone with Alzheimer’s, @alzheimerssoc are so helpful, my heart goes out to anyone supporting a loved one with Alzheimer’s or anyone that’s lost someone to this cruel illness.”
Davina’s heartfelt post struck a chord with her famous friends and followers alike.
