Dawn French looks unrecognisable and jokes new look is inspired by The Chase's Anne Hegerty

Comedian Dawn French looked unrecognisable after she showed off her new look - and admits she looks like The Chase star Anne Hegerty.

The Vicar of Dibley actress decided to premiere her hair transformation to fans on social media and left some of them shocked with a very different look to what they are used to.

Dawn, who normally sports a longer dark bob, has cropped her hair herself and decided to display her natural grey colour.

She wrote: "Hair update. I’m going for it big time. Chop chop. Bring on the silver.

"In my head, it’s v Jamie Lee Curtis. Husband says it’s actually v Anne Hegerty. Don’t care…. Both are ruddy KWEEEENS."

She also wrote on her Instagram: "Hair update. 3 shades of grey (working up to the 50) I’ve chopped even more off.

"I’m thinking I’m giving it solid Jamie Lee Curtis. Husband says I’m giving it full Anne Hegerty…. Righto. In your face husband, coz BOTH are Ishtar…"

Anne Hegerty approved of the similarity saying: "Looks fabulous!"

And Dawn replied: "Full respect to you m’lady."

Scots Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney also volunteered: "Dawnie Lee Curtis."

And Dawn responded: "Boom. Mic drop."

Illusionist Derren Brown also replied joking: "Total success. Can’t wait to lick it and get pastry fingers all in it. You stunner xx"

One fan said: "I gave up hair dye 4 years ago and I can honestly say it was one of my better decisions."

Another added: "Haven’t dyed my hair for couple of years, then went from chin length bob to this couple of months’ ago. Delighted and lots of +ve comments."

Another wrote: "Awesome, grey is fabulous and empowering, mine has just a few highlights to give it depth, but nothing like the full colour I used to have"

Someone else however wasn't such a fan of grey and said: "I don’t recommend it. Mine is short after losing it to chemo and I hate it. It adds 20 years to me I think, plus facial recognition thinks I’m a man. You are much prettier than me though."
