Who is Death in Paradise's Don Gilet? New series 14 detective

Gilet will take on the role of DI Mervin Wilson in the popular series.

In the first trailer for series 14, the actor can be seen investigating a murder as the new detective inspector of Saint Marie.

Mervin, who previously discovered his estranged mother had died, says in the trailer that he does not think her death was “an accident”.

He is also heard saying “…of all the elaborate ways to murder someone” and writes on a board that appears to show suspects and witnesses to a crime.

Who is Don Gilet?

You might recognise Don Gilet from his time on a popular UK soap opera.

The 58-year-old is known for his role as the villainous Lucas Johnson in the soap EastEnders.

He also starred in Sherwood, Holby City, Shetland, The Stranger and more.

Gilet was first seen in his new detective role during the Death in Paradise Christmas special.

In the teasers for the new Death in Paradise series, Gilet’s character is ready to leave the island for good when a case close to the hearts of those at the station presents itself.

In addition to starring as DI Mervin Wilson in the Christmas special, Gilet played a different character in Death in Paradise when he was a guest star in series four.
