BBC’s Dragons’ Den derailed into giggles on Thursday, February 22, when Dragon Deborah Meaden accidentally made an x-rated confession in the Den. The hilarious moment came during entrepreneur Joe Woolf’s pitch with his company Tasty Mates.
Tasty Mates offer gourmet gummy sweets – but Deborah, 65, confused the company with another. “I need to ask a question: are Mates condoms still in existence?” she asked before the rest of the Den started laughing.
She added: “Mates condoms. Edible condoms.” Peter Jones then joked: “Deborah, there was a brand called Mates but you weren’t supposed to eat them,” and the others chuckled.

Deborah then said: “That’ll explain, I get indigestion, maybe that’s the problem.” Her co-star Steven Bartlett then quipped: “It’s weird seeing your parents joke about things like that,” and Deborah smacked him on the arm.
While Deborah was able to joke about the company’s name share, she did find fault in Joe’s pitch. She told the young entrepreneur that his branding was not “compelling enough”.
Deborah added: “Until you’ve worked out a compelling story then I don’t think you are going to sort the brand out.” She ultimately made the decision to not invest in Tasty Mates.
Not everyone was pessimistic, though, and Peter told Joe that he had the qualities to become a very successful business owner.
After saying this, Peter did make an offer to Joe – all of the money, £60,000, for 20 percent of the business. After attempting to make Peter bring his offer down, he was unsuccessful – but Peter did say that if he got his money back in 12 months then he’d drop to 15 percent. Joe accepted the offer.
The current series of Dragons' Den has seen two guest Dragons enter the Den in Gary Neville and Emma Grede. The BBC show has also been at the centre of a controversy involving ear seeds, which you can read about here.
