Care UK encouraging discussions around dementia care
Ahead of Dementia Action Week, people are receiving advice on how to care for loved ones with the condition from Care UK.

Care UK, which operates Charlton Lodge in Wantage, is encouraging discussions about dementia with their initiative, The Big Dementia Conversation.

The care provider has set up an online advice hub to foster more understanding about the condition.

It explores lesser-known symptoms and features advice from their dementia specialists who have more than 40 years of experience.

Angela Zuraw, regional director at Care UK, said: “Here at Care UK, we’re passionate about raising awareness and reducing misconceptions around dementia.

"It can be challenging to know how best to support your loved one, or what not to say – which is why we launched The Big Dementia Conversation to get everyone talking.

"This Dementia Action Week, we’re keen to share a little of our expertise to help the community."

The care home operator has come up with five tips for supporting loved ones living with dementia.

The first of these is making sure those with the condition stay active by involving them in daily tasks so they retain some independence.

They also recommended reminiscing about fond memories and enjoying music from their past.

They stressed the importance of maintaining routine, saying it can be "reassuring", while also suggesting interacting with nature can provide a "calming effect".
