Who is Dilly Carter The BBC Sort Your Life Out organiser opens up
Stacey Solomon and her crack team of helpers, including Dilly Carter, are back for a new series of BBC's Sort Your Life Out

A new series of BBC make-over show Sort Your Life Out begins on Tuesday, February 20. Stacey Solomon and her crack team are back to help families transform their homes.

As ever the 34-year-old, who is married to EastEnders star Joe Swash, is joined by author and master of detoxing Dilly Carter in the new series. Professional organiser Dilly, who is originally from Sri Lanka, has appeared on the programme since it began in 2021.

Last year, however, Dilly’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with cancer. Her diagnosis meant that she sat out on one episode of Sort Your Life Out last year, which you can read more about here.

Last April, Dilly, 43, shared that she had been diagnosed with stage one cancer of the womb. She has regularly kept her social media followers updated on her health since – and her most recent update came earlier in February on World Cancer Day.

Sharing a photo from a hospital bed, Dilly wrote: “Cancer changed my life forever. It changes a whole family's life forever. Not only did it take away my ability to have children again it has affected my daily life forever from the way I eat to the amount of time I can spend on my feet.

“The scars and the daily side effects are just the physical reminders. The mental effects are with you forever. No matter how much you try to ignore it and carry on. You will carry that weight around forever. What it did not do however is take my life.

“I am eternally grateful to the surgeons and doctors who operated for 5 and a half hours to stop the cancer spreading by removing it. Survivors' guilt however is also a huge part of living with cancer especially when so many lose their lives all around you. 1 in 2 of us will develop a form of cancer in our lifetime.”

Upon posting the photo, Dilly’s comments were flooded with support. One person wrote: “You hit the nail on the head. Although I don’t have all the physical long term issues you do.”

Another person shared: “Been there - and it takes time to get over not just the physical, but the psychological, you’re right.” And another person said: “You are so brave and such an inspiration to so many people.”

According to her website, as a teenager Dilly worked folding clothes in luxury boutiques and then later as an assistant and personal shopper where she gained an understanding of how to create, organise and sustain stylish yet functional spaces. Known as @declutterdollies to her 100k+ Instagram followers around the world, Dilly now extends her helping hand on social media and via virtual cleanses. She helps private clients and followers become more organised in their day to day lives by encouraging them to implement small ‘Dolly Dashes’ to chip away at domestic disarray. Dilly truly learned the value of decluttering when she began helping her mother, who suffers from bipolar disorder, organise her 'living chaos' at home.

Dilly has been married to her husband Charley Carter for over 10 years. The pair lived together in the US before coming back to the UK in 2012. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
