tasted even better
We saved nearly £9 by making our own and they were so easy to make

When you try to make your own version of something, it's fair to say it doesn't always go to plan.

So when I was asked to make the Cadbury Creme Egg cookies that went viral after Domino's added them to its menu, I wasn't convinced they'd be anywhere near as good as the real thing.

Obviously we had to try theirs first, it's always important to check out the competition. I thought £6.99 was a bit steep, but you do get two in a box so that softened the blow. Or should I say, you DID get two. They were a Valentine's special so are no longer available - which was another reason to recreate them.

You could make your own cookie dough, but we decided to take the easy option and buy a block of 'ready to bake' stuff.

Morrisons sells a 350g pack of it for £2.75, which also has chocolate chips in it, an added bonus. You simply divide it into four, make a flat circle shape from each bit and then fold that circle around a Creme Egg to make a ball shape.

Bang them in the oven at 200 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes and there you have it - four delicious Creme Egg cookies.

I don't think I've ever baked anything that was so easy to make - if you can even call it baking. They were so delicious, with the gooey Creme Egg oozing from the centre and the added chocolate chips adding even more chocolatey flavour.

If you want the egg to stay a bit more solid, than freeze them for an hour before making them, but ours were fine straight from the box. If a bit more runny that the Domino's ones.

Altogether it worked out at £5 for the four cookies, or £1.25 each, with one Creme Egg left over.

That's a saving of £8.98 on what it would cost to buy four from Domino's, where they work out at £3.49 per cookie.

And you could make them even cheaper if you shop around. Tesco has a slightly smaller 300g block of the dough for £2.35, which would still be enough to make four cookies. And at the moment its boxes of five Creme Eggs are reduced to £1.50 with a Clubcard.
