Dua Lipa is wowing the Glastonbury crowd with a scintillating Pyramid Stage set.

The singer last appeared at Worthy Farm in 2017, and was picked to headline Friday night (June 28th). Following a fantastic Pyramid Stage line-up – which included the likes of Olivia Dean, PJ Harvey, and LCD Soundsystem – Dua took to the stage with a point to prove.

Opening with martial drums, and the Peter Fonda sample ripped by Primal Scream for ‘Loaded’ she then played her hit single ‘Training Season’ before telling the crowd “Glastonbury – let me hear you make some noise!” and moving into her Calvin Harris produced ultra-banger ‘One Kiss’.

The ambitious stage show dialled into the themes of her recent album ‘Radical Optimism’, and brought a sense of intimacy to the vast Pyramid Stage set-up. “I’ve got to figure out a way to make 150,000 people feel like they’re in a small little nightclub,” she told the BBC earlier this year. “That’s the goal, and if there’s one place to do it, it’s got to be Glasto.”

The energy was set from the start with a high energy DJ set preceding her arrival; the speaker rigs running through the crowd were loaded with lights adding to the unified club feel – acid House smileys during the finale certainly helped, as did the ultra-cool merger of ‘New Rules’ with Bicep’s production work. A dose of fireworks during ‘Levitating’ might not have worked indoors, but it brought gasps from the Pyramid Stage crowd.

The performance drew on her recent album, while also showing off the depths of her catalogue – in particular the lasting presence of ‘Future Nostalgia’.

At times the club elements brought the crowd to a frenzy, while Kevin Parker from Tame Impala guested on a cover of his band’s ‘The Less I Know The Better’. The likes of fellow Glastonbury performer Arlo Parks and Paul Mescal were spotted backstage.

She told the crowd: “I dreamt about this my whole life and I can’t believe I’m up here with you guys!”

It’s the latest iconic move from Dua, who shared the extended edition of her album ‘Radical Optimism’ overnight. The original went to No. 1 on the charts in the UK during the first week of release, and these lengthy, club-oriented re-works tap into the psychedelic splendour of her work with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.

Stay tuned for Glastonbury updates throughout the weekend.
