Scots swimmer Duncan Scott has become Scotland’s most decorated Olympian after picking up a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

Scott won his eighth medal - two golds and six silvers - in the men’s 200 metres individual medley, usurping cyclist Sir Chris Hoy's six golds and one silver.

He is also now the UK's second most successful Olympian, with only Sir Jason Kenny having more medals among British athletes

First Minister John Swinney led the tributes online after Scott's incredible 'achievement'.

He posted on X: “Well done Duncan Scott. Another superb achievement.”

Scottish Swimming posted on X: “And with that Duncan becomes the most decorated Scottish Olympian with eight medals, surpassing Sir Chris Hoy’s total.

“In the words of Ade Moorhouse on commentary: “Duncan Scott, one of the best British swimmers we have ever seen.”

Dougie Vipond said: "Duncan is a fantastic ambassador and a truly extraordinary athlete…one to be proud of."
