Is Duolingo's Owl mascot DEAD?

Duolingo is shaking up the internet once again – this time with the shocking “death” of its beloved (and sometimes feared) green mascot, Duo the Owl.
The language-learning giant announced the news on social media, “Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully.”
“Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know,” the post read.
“we’re aware he had many enemies, but we kindly ask that you refrain from sharing why you hate him in the comments. If you feel inclined to share, please also include your credit card number so we can automatically sign you up for Duolingo Max in his memory.”

In true Duolingo fashion, the brand didn’t hold back on humour, suggesting Duo may have met his fate waiting for users to complete their lessons.

Fans were also “encouraged” to drop their credit card numbers in the comments to sign up for Duolingo Max in his honor, while a heartfelt tribute acknowledged his well-known obsession with pop star Dua Lipa.
“We appreciate you respecting Dua Lipa’s privacy at this time.”
Over on TikTok the brand posted a clip of the owl being carried in a coffin before being transported away in a pick up truck.
While it’s all clearly the hype phase of a new marketing campaign, Duo’s legacy of chaotic reminders and unrelenting motivation will live on.
While a full obituary seems premature – some previous campaigns can be found here.
