Emile Smith Rowe had two warnings before Mikel Arteta made
Emile Smith Rowe is closing in on a move to Fulham as Mikel Arteta's side have agreed a club-record fee of £34million with the Cottagers for the attacking midfielder's services

Emile Smith Rowe received a stark warning concerning his composure on the ball and ability to take his chances before Mikel Arteta decided to sell him.

Marco Silva's Fulham are close to securing the 24-year-old's move for a club-record fee of £34million with terms having been agreed between them and Arsenal for the transfer of the attacking midfielder.

It will surely be a hard pill to swallow for Gunners fans seeing Smith Rowe leave, given he's been with the club since the age of 10. Nevertheless, such a decision was bound to happen considering his sparse gameplay over recent seasons.

In his breakout season of the 2021/22 campaign, he netted 10 league goals in 33 matches. But shockingly, the past two seasons combined have seen him play the same amount of games in all competitions while failing to score a goal, reports the Mirror.

His issues with scoring were evident during Arsenal's 1-0 loss to Southampton in April 2022 when club icon Ian Wright criticised him for missing a golden opportunity to equalise and his lack of composure and calmness in the moment.

On Premier League Productions, the former England star stated: "Look at Arsenal here, Emile Smith Rowe, he really slashed at that, you want a bit of composure. You want a bit of calmness there.

"You look at the way he really smashes himself at this. All you want really is to get on that and get a clean contact on target. The goalkeeper is still stretching to try and save it. If he gets a good contact then he probably scores. The problem is striking. And taking chances. You saw those chances, they weren't half-chances. They were good chances."

Smith Rowe - who's been on the Gunners' US pre-season tour - has agreed terms with Fulham and is set to join his new team-mates in their Portuguese training camp for pre-season once he's completed his medical in London.

The Cottagers are set to add Smith Rowe to their squad as their second addition of the summer following the comeback of Ryan Sessegnon, who rejoined on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur after five years.

With the former England starlet departing the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners have been busy bringing in new faces and sealed their second summer transfer by clinching a £42m deal for Riccardo Calafiori earlier this week.

Following David Raya's loan being made into a permanent move from Brentford earlier this window, a third arrival could be on it's way in the form of Euro 2024 champ and Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino, as it is believed that the north London club are moving closer to a deal for the Spaniard.
