ITV Emmerdale teases devastating split for loved couple after 'vindictive' betrayal

ITV Emmerdale teases devastating split for loved couple after vindictive
betrayal
Emmerdale viewers may see two characters split for good two years after their wedding, as one resident felt betrayed by their wife's actions on the ITV soap

Emmerdale could be splitting up a popular couple on the ITV soap just two years on from their wedding.

In fact, the couple have split before in the past before reuniting years later and tying the knot once more. Now there could be trouble facing them, and this time it could be over for good.

Marlon Dingle was mortified in the latest episode of the ITV soap, after the actions of his "vindictive" wife Rhona Goskirk. Her actions possibly led to another character being sentenced to eight years in prison, while he was guilty of fraud.

While Rhona saw it as her telling the truth, Marlon felt betrayed as he'd been kept in the dark about so much recently, and yet again she failed to confide in him about what she planned to do in court. Viewers will know that Gus and Rhona have been battling for months over custody of their baby daughter Ivy.

To cut a long story short, Rhona found out Gus and his wife Lucy had used Rhona and Gus' frozen embryos from when they were married, as they wanted to have a child. Rhona didn't even know they had not been destroyed decades ago as requested, and did not give permission for them to be used.

After Lucy died following Ivy's birth, Rhona wanted to be part of Ivy's life and she and Gus fought over what was best for the little one. Gus tried to undermine Rhona not only by attempting to flee with his daughter, but then trying to get Rhona imprisoned for kidnap.

Now he's been imprisoned for eight years and was led away by officers in the latest episode, on charges of fraud after he also stole Rhona's identity. Rhona had planned to give a statement in court to help lessen his sentence, but she ended up calling him out and exposing his actions to the jury and the judge.

Marlon was taken aback, with Rhona not having told him how she wanted to expose Gus. While it seemed to happen in the moment, Marlon felt betrayed that Rhona wasn't honest with him, just like she hadn't been throughout the drama with Gus, including when the pair discussed what would happen with Ivy, and the initial court statement.

Gus was left reeling as the judge ordered for him to be taken away there and then, with his freedom gone. As he left the court he asked Rhona: "How could you?" with Marlon then looking at her, appalled by her actions.

Marlon later explained it was the fact she was "vindictive" and clearly wanted to send Gus away from Ivy, with her admitting "he got what he deserved". More than that, he couldn't not get over her not keeping him in the loop yet again and going behind his back - so might this be it for the loved couple?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.* Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
