England begin their World Cup 2022 campaign with a Group B encounter against Iran on Monday.

The Three Lions will start their first ever competitive fixture with the Iranians as favourites and will be confident of the three points ahead of tougher assignments against USA and Wales.

Iran are managed by former Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, who is managing the nation for the third time in a World Cup.

The Portuguese veteran has made the Iranians a dogged team to play against in recent years and they boast a number of dangerous players in the forward areas such as Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Sardar Azmoun, and Mehdi Taremi.

Here is everything you need to know about England’s match with Iran.

However, the 32 year-old has been taking part in training at England’s Al Wakrah Sports Complex and is hopeful of being fit enough to play some role in the Three Lions’ second group match against the USA on November 25.

Walker said: ‘I think the first game [Iran] is probably too short, but from then onwards I’ll be good and ready to go.’

Meanwhile, James Maddison has not trained properly since arriving in Qatar after picking up a slight knee injury in Leicester’s final match before the World Cup and is a doubt for England’s opener in Doha.
