Don Hutchison has sent Everton fans a positive message ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford, exclaiming that they’re already safe.
The Toffees moved eight points clear of the relegation zone with four games remaining after back-to-back wins over Nottingham Forest and Liverpool over the last week.
While they’re not safe mathematically yet, and still have to face Luton before the season ends, former Goodison Park midfielder and current TNT Sports pundit Hutchison told the fans they’re good to relax as they have avoided the drop now.
“Everton are safe,” he wrote on his personal X account (27 April). “Stop coming at me with the mathematical jargon!
“Relax Everton fans. Enjoy the weekend.”
Everton players must stay focused until the job is done
While the fans of the Blues can certainly enjoy themselves and enjoy the games with a little bit less pressure now after recent results, but the players can’t listen to that noise.
Sean Dyche won’t accept it either, but the players must know that in football anything can happen and if they switch off to early they can very easily be punished.
It wasn’t that long ago that the club went on a run of one win in 15 games, and if Luton suddenly flick a switch and find form including getting a win over Everton then momentum could have a huge say on the final weeks of the season.
The sentiment from Hutchison is certainly one that is shared among the fan base and should help the atmosphere at Goodison Park, but it is not done until it’s done.
The team, coaching staff and the fans still have a job to do to secure Premier League status for next season and everyone has to stay focused.
