Both clubs have asked fans to applaud on 12 minutes

Everton and Liverpool football clubs have urged fans to come together for a minute's applause to remember Ava White during tonight's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool FC and Everton FC have collectively urged fans from both clubs to applaud on 12 minutes in memory of 12-year-old Ava White during the match on December 1.

Ava died after being stabbed in Liverpool City Centre on November 25 while attending the switching on of the Christmas lights with her friends.

A statement released on Everton's social media pages read: "Tonight at Goodison, we ask both sets of supporters to applaud on 12 minutes in memory of 12-year-old Ava White, who tragically lost her life in the city centre last week."

Liverpool later reposted the statement on their Twitter account with a blue and red heart.

Fans from both clubs have been asked to applaud on 12 minutes to remember the 12-year-old.

Ava died after suffering “ catastrophic injuries ” in an assault in Liverpool city centre on November 25.

She had been out with friends for the Christmas Lights switch on when a verbal row developed into an “assault on her with a knife”, Merseyside Police said.

The Year 8 pupil at Notre Dame Catholic College has been described as "unique" and "hugely" popular in tributes paid to her since her death.

Bouquets of flowers and balloons have continued to be laid in her memory on Church Street, close to where she was attacked.

Merseyside Police confirmed a 14-year-old boy had been charged with her murder, as well as possession of a bladed article on Sunday night.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this morning.

He could stand trial next May.

A vigil for Ava is to be held on Saturday December 4 at 6pm on Church Street.

The match at Goodison Park will kick off at 8.15pm.
