Florence Pugh reveals profound impact of shaving her head for We
Florence Pugh has opened up about what it was like to shave her head for her role in new film We Live in Time, where she stars opposite Andrew Garfield

Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield take the lead in the new romantic drama 'We Live in Time', which hits theatres today, Wednesday, January 1.

The much-anticipated film is tipped to be a heartfelt watch, showcasing the emotional journey of Almut and Tobias as they navigate life's challenging ups and downs.

Florence Pugh stunned audiences with her bold, shaved look at last year's Met Gala in May, a drastic hairstyle change that fans later learned was for her role in 'We Live in Time'. Her character is depicted grappling with cancer, which was revealed in the movie's trailer.

In the run-up to the film's launch, Pugh opened up about her experience of getting her head shaved and the profound impact it had on her.

She discussed with British Vogue: "In many religions, hair is the most precious thing on the body it's where you store your memories and your dreams and your history. (Shaving) it was really bizarre."

MyLondon reports she described the physical sensation post-shave: "My head was so sensitive and so many people were trying to touch it and it was so alive. My body went into a bit of trauma from it. I was cold all the time."

One of the crucial scenes sees Tobias, played by Andrew Garfield, responsible for shaving Almut's hair, an act Garfield confessed made him quite apprehensive.

He shared his worries: "What if I somehow destroyed the head of one of the best actors of her generation?

"It was terrifying, but ultimately it was a very beautiful, intimate scene to shoot and thank God she has such a nicely shaped melon."

Florence has recently opened up about how embracing a new role came at an opportune moment in her own life. She found that changing her hair was part of shedding her previous conceptions about herself and life.

Keen to shed the glitzy Hollywood image, she immersed herself into the character's experiences, recounting, "I was going through so many (aesthetic) iterations when I was also going through life decisions."

Embracing her transformation, she reflected, "I was like, 'Cool, well I don't look like me. I'm changed. I'm changing.' Looking back on that summer, I was growing into a new thing."

Now, more than 18 months later, after she famously shaved her head for the role, Florence is sporting a chic bob, which has been turning heads at promotional events for her film.
