Budget 2021 live updates as Rishi Sunak announces autumn measures in Commons - Wales Online

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is announcing his latest budget. He began in the Commons shortly after 12.30pm.

The budget falls on the same day as the results of a spending review looking at how public services will be financed over the next three years.

Announcements already previewed by the Treasury total £20bn of spending. Some of the announcements the Chancellor will make cover issues that are controlled by the Welsh Government and Mr Sunak's announcements only apply to England. However, Wales will receive a proportion of any new money.

Two of the headline pledges we've already seen relate to wages. The National Living Wage will increase to £9.50 from April, 2022, equating to an extra £1,000 a year for a full-time worker - that will apply in Wales.

The lifting of the public sector pay freeze is a more complicated answer.

If the money for the pay rises is not coming from an existing pot in the UK Government budget this is new money and therefore Wales will get a proportional share of this through the Barnett Formula but we don't know how much extra money will come to Wales through this because we don't know yet how much the pay rise will be.
