Gary Anderson beats Rob Cross in thriller as epic former champions battle lights up World Championship
The Scot remains on course for a third title as he progressed into the last eight for the ninth time.

Gary Anderson remains on course for a third William Hill World Championship title after winning a thriller against Rob Cross.

The Scottish hero, who won the crown in 2015 and 2016, had just enough electricity at the Alexandra Palace to zap Voltage.

Anderson came out on top after an epic battle of the previous champions to make the last eight for the ninth time in his PDC career.

Cross, who won the 2018 title on his debut appearance at the Worlds, was in form going into the clash and took the opening set to lead the last 16 showdown.

But Anderson smashed back with a searing run of six in seven legs including a showbiz 170 finish to turn the game around and go 2-1 up.

The Musselburgh man pressed home his advantage and sauntered through the fourth to establish a 3-1 lead and move one away.

Cross was all at sea at that stage and busted a finish in the fifth.

But seven missed darts to move a leg from success broke some of the Anderson momentum and a fabulous 144 finish from his rival reduced the deficit.

Cross then made it 3-3 as Anderson bust a finish of his own, but the Scot stayed composed in the decider to get over the line and get through with a 4-3 winning scoreline.

Up next is fellow Scot Peter Wright as he faces Ryan Searle.
