Gary Anderson slams pain and shambles PDC darts as players gaining and losing money
Gary Anderson has joined Gerwyn Price in calling for the 2022 PDC World Darts Championship to be suspended following a series of positive Covid-19 tests among players

Gary Anderson is considering whether the 2022 PDC World Darts Championship should be scrapped following the forced withdrawals of Vincent van der Voort, Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall.

The two-time champion of the world has joined reigning champ Gerwyn Price in suggesting that the tournament should be postponed following a series of positive Covid-19 tests among players.

The Flying Scotsman squeezed into the fourth round with a 4-3 win over Ian White on Wednesday in which his opponent was 3-0 up and missed a dart for the match.

Despite his joy at reaching the last 16 for a seventh consecutive year, the 51-year-old has been left feeling uncertain about the tournament thanks to the recent withdrawals.

When asked if Van Gerwen's exit helps his chances, Anderson replied: "It doesn't really help anybody.

"I think it's hard... to me it's not right.

"You've got players losing money, got players gaining money, and it's gonna be a kind of shambles for the next few months in the rankings I think.

"What can you do, shut us down? Go by everyone in the first round who was fit, winners get paid, losers get paid, call it a day. Do away with it this year."

Adding when asked if that's what he wants to happen: "You have to... well I don't know, it's hard.

"Everyone's trying to be (careful) but everyday there's somebody else getting it so I don't know. It's one of these things."

Before joking: "But if I miss my holiday... god help yous."

That came after Price had said on his Instagram story: "Tournament needs to be postponed."

Earlier in the month, PDC Chairman Eddie Hearn insisted that the tournament would go ahead without fans if government guidance stopped crowds attending.

He said: "If anything happens, firstly we will cry a little bit – and then we will lick our wounds and go to work.

"We are all used to it now as a business. We will always adhere to the government rules."
