20 fascinating photos of George Harrison as fans mourn 20th anniversary of his death


Today marks the 20th anniversary of the death of legendary musician George Harrison MBE.
George Harrison achieved worldwide fame as lead guitarist of The Beatles and went on to have a successful career as a solo artist in later years, before his death in 2001.
Alongside John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, he changed the music industry forever.

Originally from Wavertree, George and the Harrison family lived on Mackets Lane between 1962 and 1965, where many Beatles fans still visit today in his memory.
As a youngster, George passed the 11-plus and attended the same school as bandmate Paul - the Liverpool Institute - a grammar school which closed in 1985.

George died in 2001, aged 58, following a long battle with cancer.
