Passing of former Mayo GAA star is widely mourned

The death has taken place of Ger Brady, Grattan Park, Claremorris, and formerly of Murneen South, Barnacarroll.

A former Mayo GAA football star who played at senior, Under-21 and minor levels for Mayo, he died peacefully at The Mayo Hospice after a brave battle with illness.

Ger will be sadly missed by his loving wife Karen (Bell) and their precious son Dylan, his parents Gerry and Margaret, mother-in-law Ann, sisters Elaine Forde, Tara Nally and Louise Grant, brothers-in-law Richard, Colin, Keith, Tomas and Keith, sisters-in-law Aisling, Aimee and Edel, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.

Ger’s remains will repose at Gilligan’s Funeral Home, Market Square, Claremorris (F12YP74), from 5 until 7 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place in St. Colman’s Church, Claremorris, on Sunday 2 p.m. with burial afterwards in St Colman’s Cemetery, Claremorris.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.

One stated: "He was a wonderful human being whom I got to know well through football in Claremorris.

"A great talent and also a character who faced his recent illness with the typical grit and fight he showed on the field, his legacy and memories will live on."

Another said: "So sad to hear of Ger's passing. I have the privilege of playing with him and against him on the football field (both Gaelic and soccer). Ger was an excellent player in both codes and was always a really nice and friendly person."

A further tribute described him as "a lovely, quite, unassuming man."

As a mark of respect Claremorris GAA Club has postponed its senior and minor fixtures scheduled for this weekend.
