Urban legend of the ‘Ghost of Kyiv’ rises amid Ukraine-Russia crisis
If you are following the Ukraine-Russia news on social media, you’ll have come across the “Ghost of Kyiv”, who some internet users claim is a Ukrainian fighter pilot.
What makes the story even more intriguing is the fact the unidentified pilot is being labelled an “ace” for allegedly shooting down six Russian fighters in the skies above Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
Despite no evidence to prove the existence of the Ghost of Kyiv, some social media users are nevertheless drawing inspiration from the mysterious pilot while dubbing his alleged act “heroic”.

Unconfirmed reports claiming a Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot had shot down six Russian aircraft are spreading like wildfire on social media.
Social media users are also sharing a video of a jet in action, claiming it’s footage of a Ukrainian fighter ace.
In no time at all, the pilot supposedly flying the aircraft was dubbed the “Ghost of Kyiv” and hailed as a “fighter ace”, a military term used for a pilot credited with shooting down five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat.
Nevertheless, Ukraine officials haven’t confirmed how many Russian aircraft may have been shot down nor commented on the “fighter ace” claims on Twitter.
