Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Ending and Post-Credits Scene ...
Let's make this simple: You want to know if there are any post- or mid-credits scenes in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The answer is that there's one mid-credits scene, so you should definitely stick around after the credits start rolling.
Full spoilers follow for the film.
It's been three years since Ghostbusters: Afterlife reintroduced the original Ghostbusters to a whole new generation, with the franchise re-centering on the family of co-founder Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis). McKenna Grace’s Phoebe, Egon's science prodigy granddaughter, was joined by her mother Callie (Carrie Coon), brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), and science teacher Greg (Paul Rudd). Afterlife reignited the franchise and was received well by fans, earning enough at the box office — over $200 million on a $75 million budget — to inspire a sequel. This time around, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings the two generations together, expanding the roles of the original surviving Ghostbusters Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) from cameos in Afterlife to returning heroes here.
The Ghostbusters are back in New York City in the new film, and the two generations come together to stop an ancient hell-deity named Garraka who has been trapped in a brass puzzle ball. But as you might have guessed... he gets out! So let's get down to ghost business and talk about how Phoebe and her ghostbusting friends and family save the day.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Ending Explained
After some very sweet and comedic ghostly shenanigans in New York, things get frosty when Phoebe uses some of Winston's ghost tech to separate her spirit from her human body in order to be closer to her ghostly new friend, Melody (Emily Alyn Lind). Sadly, Melody has an ulterior motive: helping Garraka to possess Phoebe's spirit form in order to make her human body recite the words that will free him. The plan is successful, unleashing a brutal and deadly winter on the summery streets of Manhattan. Both generations of Ghostbusters come together, arriving at the iconic firehouse to face down their demonic foe.
Things look dire as the Ghostbusters end up frozen inside the firehouse when Garraka attacks, freeing 40 years of ghosts onto the streets of NYC. Luckily, the team has a secret weapon. See, Kumail Nanjiani's hilarious slacker Nadeem Razmaadi is actually the latest in a long line of fire masters, protectors of the orb that keeps Garraka from doing the whole evil winter apocalypse thing. Although he did try to sell that very orb to Ray, and basically heralded the end of the world in the process, Nadeem manages to harness his family legacy and bend some fire. This allows Phoebe, with her amped-up, brass-plated proton pack, to defeat Garraka and trap him in the now-empty containment unit, essentially making the firehouse into a private Garraka ghost trap. None of it would have been possible without Melody, though, who realized her mistake in betraying Phoebe and used a match that she always carries to help Nadeem harness his fire powers. It's a choice that finally allows her to move on from this mortal coil as Phoebe tearfully says goodbye.
As summer returns to the streets of NYC, the team leaves the firehouse to cheering crowds, with the catchy music of Ray Parker Jr.'s iconic theme song playing on the soundtrack. The mayor — previous Ghostbusters nemesis Walter Peck (William Atherton) — is forced to accept them as heroes thanks to the public support of the Ghostbusters. And just before the credits roll, the Spengler family is seen heading out on a ghostbusting call, hinting that NYC has a new official team of heroes now.
Does Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Have a Post-Credits Scene?
As mentioned at the top of this page, the new Ghostbusters movie does have a mid-credits scene. It’s a rather sweet — pun intended — sequence that sees the Mini-Pufts from Ghostbusters: Afterlife hijack a giant Stay-Puft Marshmallow truck from a gas station, driving it off into the dark night. That’s pretty much the gist of it, so you probably don't have to wait around if you were expecting a huge setup piece for a prospective next film. But if you like those nihilistic marshmallow monsters, then it's a fun way to end a fun movie. Plus, as we're about to get into, it could lead to big trouble for the Ghostbusters…

How Does Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Set Up a Sequel?
While we don't know if there'll be another Ghostbusters film with this cast and crew, Frozen Empire does leave the door open for more stories. The Spengler family is now fully set up as the new and now publicly recognized Ghostbusters. And, thanks to the fact that Garraka blew up the forty-year-old containment unit and freed every spirit inside, there are a ton of ghosts floating around New York for them to catch. It's an interesting new route to have a family in the role of doing the daily ghostbusting. And now that they're established, the focus of any future films could be on them busting ghosts instead of having to earn the right to do so.
There's also plenty to explore in the world of Winston's new paranormal investigation center that wants to answer questions about ghosts and spirits rather than just catching them. It would be really simple to expand that out as its own spinoff series or movie with younger characters like Lucky (Celeste O'Connor), Podcast (Logan Kim), and Wolfhard’s Trevor working alongside new addition Lars Pinfield (British comedian James Acaster) and, of course, Ernie Hudson as Winston. This could be a fresh new take on Ghostbusters lore that also leans into some of the funnest moments that we got in Frozen Empire. And speaking of fun, we could also see those pesky Stay-Puft Marshmallows try to use that big truck they stole to cause chaos and even maybe bring a bigger Stay-Puft into play.
Interestingly too, the film opens with an ident under the Sony banner called "Ghost Corps," implying that there are likely plans afoot for different Ghostbusters stories. Something we'd love to see would be an animated series like the old Extreme Ghostbusters or, as with the studio's Spider-Verse series, possibly a Ghostbusters animated film where creatives can envision something entirely new! But we'll have to wait and see what Sony and the Ghost Corps have in store.
