Inside BBC Escape to the Country's Ginny Buckley's life off-screen ...
Escape to the Country's presenter, Ginny Buckley, is gracing our screens once more, assisting a hopeful family in their quest for their dream home on BBC One. Ginny, who became part of the show in 2015, has had a colourful career journey.
Born in Rochdale in April 1968, Ginny, now 56, moved to Australia when she was just 18. Her career in presenting had already begun, having joined BBC local radio in Manchester at the tender age of 12.
During her late teens, while living in Sydney, she worked in commercial radio before returning to England in 1991. Among her career highlights is the launch of a multi-channel media platform called Electrifying.com in March 2020.
This project involved experts in electric cars offering straightforward advice to those contemplating making the switch. Fans might also be interested to know that Ginny has tried her hand at acting, playing a newsreader on The Bill in 2008.
On a personal level, she currently lives in Shiplake in Oxfordshire with her son Zak and their cocker spaniel, Ziggy. In 2021, she expressed her affection for the area, which she fell in love with on her first visit, reports WalesOnline
She often enjoys walking along the Thames Path and other popular routes with her family, as well as stand-up paddleboarding on the river during the summer months. Ginny has also advocated for the passing of a Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill in Parliament, which calls for legally binding measures to reduce Britain's greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming to no more than 1.5C.
The star opened up to the Henley Standard about her fondness for her hometown: "I moved here without even visiting Henley. I was sold purely on the charm of this village, which I absolutely adore because of its proximity to the river and great walks on the doorstep."
After moving, she quickly realised the perks of living in such an idyllic location—a better quality of life, more space, and a historic market town just around the corner. Speaking about her son, who is now a teenager and shares her environmental ethos, the journalist and presenter revealed that Zak and his companions often collect litter from the river.
Celebrating Zak's 15th birthday in August, Ginny took to Instagram with heartfelt words: "And just like that my beautiful boy is 15 and taller than me!
"Wishing you the happiest of birthdays and a year filled with all the good things you deserve - climb that ladder to the stars. I love you to the moon and back and I'm so proud of you, mum x".
Escape to the Country airs on BBC One at 3pm
