Gogglebox sparks Ofcom complaints with duck sex scene
What else?

Gogglebox has sent its audiences quackers once again – this time, by airing an excerpt from feminist anthology series Roar.

Last week's episode of Gogglebox sparked a flurry of complaints from viewers to broadcasting regulator Ofcom, after the Channel 4 reality series aired its families reacting to a weirdly racy scene from the new Apple TV+ drama.

The clip in question is from the series' episode 'The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck', which, as well as exploring the issue of domestic abuse, features a scene in which Merritt Wever's character Elisa is sexually pleasured by a duck.

Now there's a sentence we thought we'd never write.

According to Metro.co.uk, Ofcom has received just shy of 150 complaints about the now-infamous Gogglebox moment, although it's not yet clear if an investigation will follow.

Merritt, who plays the duck's lover(!) Elisa, recently opened up about the seriousness of the scene, telling RadioTimes.com that she hopes viewers see the episode as "worthwhile".

"People keep asking what I think of the episode, which makes sense because I worked on it and this is part of my job," she said. "But the truth is, I'm a lot more interested in what the people who watch it and experience what we made feel about it."

Merritt added: "And I'm nervous about it, honestly. I'm nervous to hear how it is received. I'm scared."

"I hope people feel it was worthwhile. I hope people feel it's treated with respect," the Roar star continued, hinting at the episode's sensitive theme.

"I hope people don't feel that because it is a story told in a container that has a bit of a gloss on it, or comes off a certain way in the beginning, that it is not being treated seriously because we certainly did take it seriously."

Gogglebox airs on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
