Country star Granger Smith’s heartbreak after his three-year-old son dies in a ‘tragic accident’
COUNTRY music star Granger Smith has spoken of his heartbreak after his three-year-old son died in a “tragic accident”.
The singer shared the “unthinkable news” on social media and said his youngest son River Kelly Smith would be “forever in our hearts”.
The dad, who lives in Austin, Texas, told how River was unable to be revived and passed away despite doctors’ best efforts.
Smith and his wife Amber decided to donate River’s organs so other children would be given a “second chance at life”.
In a heartbreaking statement, the Backroad Song singer said: “I have to deliver unthinkable news.
“We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith.
“Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived.
“Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”
Smith, 39, told how his youngest son was “special” and “brought joy to their lives”.
“Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately,” he wrote.
“The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment.
“Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”
Smith's wife, Amber, also shared the heartbreaking news on social media and posted a photo of her holding her boy, who had just celebrated his third birthday in May.
“Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news,” she captioned the image.
"The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible," Amber and Granger concluded both of their posts.
The couple are also parents to son Lincoln, 5, and daughter London, 7.
