Customers were only able to use cash or apps for a time on Wednesday morning.

Some Greggs stores in Tayside and Fife were forced to close on Wednesday morning after an issue with their tills.

The nationwide IT glitch hit branches across the country.

The issue has since been resolved.

The Broughty Ferry store was among those unable to open first thing on Wednesday.

A sign put up on the doors of the takeaway said: “Apologies, due to a national outage our systems are not working at the moment.

“Therefore, we cannot open the store until the problem is resolved.

“We’re trying our best at the moment to get back up and running.

“Sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

Customers were told they could still use online apps to order food.

The Greggs on Murraygate in Dundee city centre was open but taking cash only.

The Overgate branch had card issues earlier in the day but they were resolved quickly.

A spokesperson for Greggs said: “We have now resolved the technical issue that affected tills in some of our shops earlier this morning.

“The majority of shops affected are now able to take card and cash payments again and we expect the issue to be fully resolved shortly.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to our customers.”

It comes after similar problems hit the likes of McDonald’s, Sainsbury’s and Tesco in recent days.
