Erling Haaland has been left out of the Manchester City squad for their FA Cup semi-final versus Chelsea.

The Norwegian forward is absent as Pep Guardiola's side look to retain the trophy they won last season. Julian Alvarez will lead City's forward line instead ahead of Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish at Wembley.

Haaland left the field early in Man City's clash with Real Madrid as they exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage on penalties. Guardiola revealed following that clash that the forward highlighted an issue and asked to be replaced.

Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola could not guarantee Haaland would be back in time Brighton on Thursday. He said: "He's injured. I don't think it's much but he's not able for today. I don't know [if he will be back for the next game]."

It was a more positive outlook for De Bruyne who was also replaced against Real Madrid. "He feels good," the Catalan coach added. "We start with this team and we'll see what happens."

The Premier League champions have made three further changes as Ederson, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias drop to the bench. Stefan Ortega, Nathan Ake and John Stones come into the lineup with Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji completing the defence.

Former City youngster Cole Palmer is present for Chelsea for the semi-final clash. The 21-year-old drew level with Haaland in the Premier League top goalscorer charts after netting four times versus Everton.
