Harry Kane statue savaged by fans as everyone draws same conclusion
Harry Kane had a statue of himself created in 2019 but it had remained in storage for five years until it was released to the public with its design copping major criticism

A statue of Harry Kane has made its way into the public domain five years after it was commissioned, but fans are far from impressed with the optics.

Back in 2019 it was announced that ward councillors in Waltham Forest Council had agreed to erect a piece of art celebrating the England skipper, who has since become his country's and Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer. Kane is now at Bayern Munich and furthering his legacy in Germany.

A sum of £7,200 was allocated so that a sculpture could be made of the Walthamstow-born striker. A life-size figure of Kane sitting on a bench was created, but never released as it sat in storage. Pictures have now been released by the Big Issue and fans claim the statue should still be out of sight such is its look.

One fan said: "Should’ve been kept in storage." Another echoed that as they claimed: "Should have remained in storage." A third suggested: "Nah, this ain’t Kane". One fan said it was a "disasterclass".

The statue of Kane was originally going to be installed on a platform at Chingford Overground station, the area where Kane grew up, but they were shelved after a risk assessment carried out by Transport for London.

Emma Best, the Conservative councillor for Chingford's Endlebury ward who approved the project, said that they'd had spent "hours and hours" trying to find somewhere to put the artwork.

A spokesperson for Kane had said: "Especially with Harry being England and Tottenham's all time top goal scorer. It is what he deserves. The location of the statue is really important to us and like Emma said we are having some issues at the moment, but when we get it right, we will be happy to go."

Kane's time in the English top flight has come to a halt following his summer move to Bayern. Many expect him to eventually return later in his career with the Premier League all-time scorer record within his grasp, but for now he's setting records in the Bundesliga.

His legend could grow further this summer when England feature in the Euros, where they are one of the favourites. Kane has previously excelled in major tournaments and will hope to fire the Three Lions to glory following several near misses in Gareth Southgate's reign.
