In must-see festive classic Home Alone, a young Macaulay Culkin does a fine job as eight-year-old Kevin McCallister in defending the family property from a couple of would-be thieves.

The house, festooned with Christmas decorations, has a starring role in the 1990 film hit as the target of the hapless criminals who come in for plenty near-death experiences at the hands of the resourceful Kevin.

And it's back in the spotlight this festive season as new research reveals the worth today of a pick properties used as locations on film and TV.

Property portal MoveStreets says it has revealed the current market value of some of the big and small screen's most iconic Christmas homes.

Check out whether the Home Alone house could make a killing - or is a steal.

Downton Abbey - Highclere Castle Estate

Starting with the main location for the much-loved period drama - whose festive specials were filmed in the North East - this is the most expensive of the chosen properties.

The castle, in the heart of Berkshire, was used as the on-screen home of the Crawley Family.

It is estimated to have a market value of £137m, says MoveStreets.

Sherlock Homes - 221b Baker Street

Christmas has become a popular feature in the TV series and the sharp sleuth's famous central London address comes with a hefty price tag £4.4m.

Absolutely Fabulous - Holland Park Avenue

Edina Monsoon's home is also in London - W11 - and the current market value of her townhouse is said to be around £3.3m.

Home Alone - Winnetka, Chicago

The impressive McCallister residence is located in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, where the famous house has an estimated value of £2.3m.

Only Fools And Horses - Peckham

Del Boy’s flat in Nelson Mandela House in this area of London has been given a surpising price tag of £513,000.

Harry Potter - 4 Privet Drive in Bracknell

The boy wizard was never able to enjoy any festive spirit during the Christmas season at the Dursley familly home where he had to return after school term.

That address in Bracknell is valued at just under £400,000, says MoveStreets.

Gavin and Stacey - Trinity Street, Barry

Other festive family favourites also live in rather more humble abodes and that includes Stacey and Gwen West from this much-loved series.

Their home in Wales is said to have a current value of £229,000.

The property round-up, which used data sourced from PropertyData, Home, Rightmove and Zillow, also includes:

James Bond family home - Skyfall Lodge, in Glencoe, Scotland, valued at £2m; Buddy’s dad’s Manhattan apartment in Elf - £1.2m; Bridget Jones’s Borough Market flat, £1.2m; the bachelor pad of Will Freeman - played by Hugh Grant - in About A Boy, £949,000 and the snow-covered country cottage owned by Iris (Kate Winslet) in The Holiday at £675,000.

Adam Kamani, the company's chief executive officer and so-founder, said: “While you’d expect a home as impressive as that portrayed in Home Alone to set you back a fair bit in today’s market, there’s no doubt Del Boy would be surprised to see his Peckham flat approaching half a million pounds.

"The rate the UK housing market is moving at, who knows, maybe this time next year they could be millionaires.”
