The new daytime police drama beings on Monday

A new daytime drama is airing on BBC One from today.

From Monday (January 31), Hope Street, a new local serial police drama, will be filling up the TV schedule.

The co-commission between BritBox North America, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Daytime begins at 2.15pm and will run for 10 episodes.

Hope Street is set in the fictional town of Port Devine on the Northern Ireland coast, and focuses on the town's police department and the mysterious arrival of English Detective Constable Leila Hussain, the first Muslim police officer in the town’s history.

With each episode featuring a self-contained crime story, the series will also follow the ups and downs of those working in the police department as they deal with everyday policing in the beautiful seaside town.

Behind this exciting new drama are acclaimed producers Paul Marquess and Donna Wiffen from Long Story TV, known for producing British drama including The Bill and creating shows like London Kills.

DS Hussain is played by Amara Karan who may be best known for co-starring in the HBO crime drama mini-series, The Night Of.

She is joined by Primeval and Paula star Ciaran McMenamin as Inspector Finn O’Hare, The Fall's Niamh McGrady as Nicole Devine, and Kerri Quinn, who played Vicky Jefferies in Coronation Street, as Sergeant Marlene Pettigrew.

Also starring in Hope Street is former Shameless star, who also starred in hit film Bohemian Rhapsody , Aaron McCusker as Clint Dunwoody, theatre and film actress Brid Brennan as Concepta O’Hare, and The Crown's Des McAleer as Barry Pettigrew.

Completing the cast line-up is Broadway star Rachel Tucker as Siobhan O’Hare and Niall Wright as PC Callum McCarthy.

Hope Street was filmed in Donaghadee , Co Down, on the shores of the Irish Sea.
