United States Meet Rhaenyra Targaryen: House of the Dragon protagonist revealed
The much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel is almost here and fans have just been delighted with an official teaser trailer.
At the latter end of 2019, following the concluding season of its predecessor, House of the Dragon was announced, an upcoming HBO Max series that would track the “beginning of the end” for House Targaryen.
As the release date draws closer, fans are curious to know information about characters, particularly Rhaenyra Targaryen who will play a leading role in the new show.

House of the Dragons will premiere for US-based viewers on the HBO network on August 21st, 2022.
The first season will consist of ten episodes that will debut weekly on HBO and HBO Max.
For those in the UK, the first episode will be released on August 22nd, 2022, on Sky Atlantic and will subsequently stream on NOW TV.
Little has been spoken about the role characters will play in the upcoming series, however, the storyline is inspired by George R. R. Martin’s, Fire and Blood.
In the novel, Rhaenyra Targaryen is a princess and the first-born child of King Viserys, the fifth King of the Seven Kingdoms, and his wife, Aemma of House Arryn.
She was named her father’s heir aged eight and grew up with the assumption she would eventually be crowned Queen of Westeros.
She is a dragon rider whose mount is Syrax.
As House of the Dragon is set 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones, there are no immediate relations between characters.
However, it can be said that Rhaenyra is a distant aunt of Daenerys Targaryen.
There are similarities between the characters, for example, both had two older brothers who died before them, both are described as stubborn, and both lived their lives under the assumption they would be the first ruling Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
The role will primarily be played by Emma D’Arcy, a 29-year-old English actress who has previously worked on Truth Seekers, Mothering Sunday, Hanna, and Misbeahviour.
D’Arcy was one of the first actors to be cast in the series.
A younger Rhaenyra Targaryen will be played by Australian actress Milly Alcock.
At just 22, the actress has already an array of credits behind her since she entered the industry in 2014.
She has worked on Janet King, A Place to Call Home, Fighting Season, Reckoning, and Upright.
In 2018, she won the Rising Star Award at the Casting Guild of Australia.
