SL vs IND: Sri Lankan players, Suryakumar Yadav confused during long DRS delay; Wasim Jaffer, fans react - Before the rain-induced delay, the third ODI witnessed another delay due to the DRS call as both teams waited for hawk-eye to give the final decisio

A bizarre incident took place during the ongoing third ODI between Sri Lanka and India as the hosts and the batsman Suryakumar Yadav were not familiar with the rules of the Decision Review System (DRS) as the delay in the decision created some confusion on the ground.

The incident took place in the last over before rain stopped play. Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama rapped Suryakumar Yadav on the pads and umpire gave it out, even though it looked like it hit the batsman outside the off-stump.

Surya immediately sent it upstairs. The third umpire first checked if the ball hit the bat. When it was clear that there was daylight between bat and ball, the next step was the ball-tracking. But it took ages fro the hawk-eye to appear on the screen.

The technical error-induced delay led to more confusion. The third umpire too seemed confused after the hawk-eye appeared as even though the ball was going on to hit the stumps, the impact was outsuide. The TV unpire wasn't sure, the Sri Lanka players apparently not well-versed with the rules started celebrating and the batsman Suryakumar Yadav, too, started walking.

However, the on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena was aware and alert just enough to call the batsman back and in the end the right decision was made.

The delay in the DRS procedure and the misinterpretation of the ball-tracking led to all the confusion and comedy of errors as former Indian cricketer and fans on Twitter came up with hilarious reactions to what happened in those 5-10 minutes.

Here are some of them:
