Panther Lake to bring 2x AI acceleration over Lunar/Arrow Lake
Pat Gelsinger confirms Panther Lake AI focus during Q4’23 earnings call.
The Intel CEO, in the earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2023, affirmed that the upcoming Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake offerings will provide a significant threefold increase in AI acceleration compared to the first AI-enabled product, Meteor Lake. Meteor Lake, being the first of the “Core Ultra” line, made its debut in December and is slowly making its way into various products. What’s important is that this is Intel’s first consumer product featuring a dedicated AI processor (NPU), a focal point in Intel marketing in the recent weeks.
Looking ahead to the expected launch of Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake Core Ultra products later this year, consumers can anticipate a threefold improvement in AI performance. However, this isn’t the final development, as Pat Gelsinger has already confirmed that the following generation, known as Panther Lake, is projected to deliver twice the performance of these products. If realized, this would mean a sixfold increase in AI performance compared to the initial release, Meteor Lake.
The Core Ultra platform delivers leadership AI performance today with our next-generation platforms launching later this year, Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake tripling our AI performance. In 2025 with Panther Lake, we will grow AI performance up to an additional 2x.
— Pat Gelsinger – Intel CEO (Q4 2023 Earnings Call)
In September of the previous year, Intel officially announced the Panther Lake CPU architecture, marking its first consumer product based on the Intel 18A node. This product is scheduled to hit the market in 2025. According to the official roadmap, Panther Lake is positioned to follow the releases of Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake, both of which are set to debut this year. The specific launch dates for each product may vary based on the form factor, with the desktop version of Arrow Lake expected this year and the mobile variant anticipated next year.
There has also been speculation regarding a potential refresh for Arrow Lake, suggesting a doubling of the core count. However, given the arrival of Panther Lake in 2025, there may be limited time for such a product unless Panther Lake is slated for a very late 2025 release.

As long as rumors are concerned, it’s expected that Panther Lake will incorporate Cougar Cove P-Cores and Darkmont E-Cores. The Darkmont E-Cores are currently utilized in Intel Xeon “Clearwater Forest” data-center CPUs, where P-Cores are absent. The Panther Lake series is expected to launch on the same LGA-1851 desktop platform as Arrow Lake, and similarly, it will be a top-to-bottom client product with desktop and mobile variants.
