Invincible Season 3 Raises the Stakes

Invincible Season 3 Raises the Stakes
Creator Robert Kirkman says the new season raises the stakes—so make sure you don’t miss the superhero epic’s return to Prime Video.

Superhero Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) returns for a third season of Invincible just a little shy of a year after season 2’s devastating finale. The 18-year-old crime fighter learned that his superhero father, Omni-Man, wasn’t as much of a hero as he thought. Then he murdered supervillain Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) in a fit of rage. According to creator Robert Kirkman, life isn’t any easier for Mark in season 3.

Last season, Kirkman told Variety, “the stakes were higher, things got a little crazier, and there were a lot of pieces moving that were hinting at a lot of bigger stories.” Now “those bigger stories really start crashing down in season 3,” he says. Prime Video already renewed Invincible for season 4. “Season 4 dwarfs season 3 in a lot of really crazy ways,” Kirkman continued. “It’s an escalating show where each season is going to be bigger, crazier, more intense, and that stuff really kicks off with season 3.”

Much like Spider-Man’s angry bout with the black suit, Mark dons a new costume in Invincible season 3 that dials up the aggression. The teenage superhero is distraught after he savagely murders Levy in season 2, which also coincided with the end of his relationship with Amber (Zazie Beatz). All the while, Director Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) remains concerned that a new legion of villains will take advantage of Mark’s emotional state.

Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) joins the stellar voice cast for season 3 as a new supervillain, alongside Kate Mara (A Teacher), John DiMaggio (Futurama), Tzi Ma (Mulan), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), and Simu Liu (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). J.K. Simmons is also returning as Omni-Man, as well as Sandra Oh as Mark’s mother, Debbie, and Zachary Quinto as the superhero Robot.
