Saoirse Ronan married her Mary Queen of Scots co-star in a secret ceremony.
According to People, the actress wed her longtime partner, actor Jack Lowden, in an intimate affair in Scotland in the past week. Irish Independent was first to break the news. (The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to reps for Ronan and Lowden.)
The couple had a civil wedding at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office, located at the City Chambers. The report mentions that only a “handful” of their closest friends attended the nuptials and “all guests were sworn to secrecy.”

They share a home in Islington, North London and have a terrier named Fran. Since Mary Queen of Scots, Ronan and Lowden have collaborated again in The Outrun, which both produced; Ronan also stars in the film. The film, which premiered at Sundance, is based on the memoir of the same name by Scottish author Amy Liptrot, about returning to her hometown to rehabilitate following alcohol and drug addiction, finding solace in nature.
While the couple has kept their relationship private throughout the years, Lowden occasionally shares snaps of them together on his personal Instagram from their travels and life at home. Fans speculated that the two were engaged after Lowden shared a photo from a hiking trip to Ben Vrackie in July 2023, featuring an engagement ring on Ronan’s hand. Ronan had also been photographed with the ring while out.
