Former footballer Jamie Vincent has died aged 46.

The ex- Crystal Palace and Portsmouth defender made more than 500 appearances for 11 clubs across his 19-year playing career.

Vincent began his playing days with Palace before moving to AFC Bournemouth and racking up over 100 games for the Cherries.

After spells with Huddersfield Town, Portsmouth, Walsall, Derby County, Millwall and Yeovil Town, the left-back helped Swindon Town win promotion to League One in 2007.

Vincent enjoyed a three-year stint with the Robins, who tweeted on Tuesday: "Our thoughts go out to all of Jamie's family and friends at this incredibly sad time."

While at Bournemouth, the 46-year-old was also a teammate of Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and his assistant, Jason Tindall.

His form in the 1998-99 campaign saw him named in the PFA Division Two Team of the Season, with the south-coast side narrowing missing out on finishing in the play-off places on goal difference.

Bournemouth posted upon the news of his passing: "Everyone at the club is desperately saddened to hear that former defender and Wembley finalist Jamie Vincent has passed away.

"Our thoughts are with Jamie's family and friends at this time. May he rest in peace."

Vincent also featured for the Cherries in the 1998 Football League Trophy final at Wembley, losing 2-1 to Grimsby Town after extra-time.

That led to a £500,000 transfer to second-tier Huddersfield in March 1999, winning their Player of the Year award in 2000, preceding a reported £800,000 move to Portsmouth the following term.

Vincent played in all three tiers of the English Football League and ended his professional career with Aldershot Town in 2011, before briefly starring for non-league outfit Didcot Town.

Former Wales international Ady Williams played with Vincent at Swindon and wrote on Twitter : "Nice to read so many tributes being paid to my mate Jamie Vincent.

"He was a great friend of mine and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his family and with loved ones. 46 is no age at all."

Portsmouth also shared a tribute which read: "We're devastated to hear that former #Pompey defender Jamie Vincent has passed away. Rest in peace, Jamie."

Aldershot joined them and said: "Aldershot Town Football Club are deeply saddened to learn former defender Jamie Vincent has passed away.

"Our thoughts go out to Jamie's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

Derby followed by tweeting: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of our former defender, Jamie Vincent.

"Jamie was at Pride Park between 2004 and 2005, and scored twice in 23 appearances for us. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Jamie."
