Jessie Buckley's debut movie is on TV tonight

Jessie Buckley's debut movie Beast will air on Film4 tonight (February 23) at 11.05pm.

The actress is now one of the most recognisable faces in cinema, with credits including The Lost Daughter, Women Talking and I'm Thinking of Ending Things, so it's hard to believe that her big screen debut was as recent as 2017.

While Buckley provided a voice on the English dub of Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart when it was released in 2014, her first live-action movie role was psychological thriller Beast.

Based on a real-life case and set on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, Beast follows Moll (Buckley), who is bored of her monotonous life with her overbearing family.

Her life changes when she meets and falls in love with mysterious outsider Pascal, played by One Life's Johnny Flynn.

However, things take a dark and dangerous turn when Pascal is accused of committing a series of murders, and Moll tries to defend him at all costs.

This is not the only Buckley film that Film4 is airing tonight, as just before Beast, at 9pm, the channel is showing her second live-action role, 2018's Wild Rose.

The musical drama sees Buckley play Rose-Lynn Harlan, a country singer and single mother of two from Scotland who tries to become a star after being released from prison, with a goal of making it to Nashville.

Buckley stars alongside Julie Walters who plays Rose's mother, with a cast that also includes Sophie Okonedo (Slow Horses), James Harkness (The Sixth Commandment), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty) and Jamie Sives (Shetland).

Meanwhile, Buckley is currently starring in comedy Wicked Little Letters alongside her The Lost Daughter co-star Olivia Colman, with the film released in UK cinemas today (February 23).

Based on a true story and also starring Timothy Spall and Anjana Vasan, the actress plays a different Rose – Rose Gooding – who is accused of sending a series of obscene letters to her conservative neighbour Edith Swan (Colman).

Wild Rose airs on Film4 tonight at 9pm, followed by Beastat 11.05pm. Wicked Little Letters is out in UK cinemas now.
