British holidaymakers heading to Spanish hotspot with Jet2 warned of 'delays'

British holidaymakers heading to Spanish hotspot with Jet2 warned of
delays
The airline has the delays down to construction works underway in Majorca

Holidaymakers jetting off to Majorca in the coming days may experience delays following maintenance work at the destination's airport, Jet2 has warned.

The airline has released a statement explaining that construction works in Majorca risk holding up operations at terminals.

Flyers travelling with the low-cost company have been told that the ongoing works could mean passengers have to wait “slightly longer than normal to clear immigration” procedures.

In a statement, the airline announced: “We are working with the airport to ensure that any disruptions to your airport experience will be kept to a minimum.

“Due to this ongoing work you may be waiting slightly longer than normal to clear immigration in both departures and arrivals, our friendly Customer Helpers will be on hand to help.

“We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding should you experience an extended wait time, which is beyond our control.”

The warning, issued on March 16, will likely apply to all passengers flying to the Spanish holiday hotspot in the coming days.

It comes days after the airline announced passengers will have more European destinations to choose this summer.

Britons hoping to visit Portugal’s Porto will be offered additional packages departing from Manchester and Birmingham airports.

These are being launched as part of the airline’s Discover More range, giving customers and travel agents the chance to book getaways from July 2024.

The additional routes announced by Jet2 come off the back of a significant demand for flights to the area.

The routes operating from Manchester Airport to Porto from July had initially been planned for 2025 Jet2's schedule.

They will run every Thursday and Sunday until November 3rd 2024, giving UK holidaymakers ample chance to fit in a sunny getaway before the end of the year.

Temperatures in Porto typically reach highs of 30C during the summer and mellow down during autumn.

Visit Portugal lists some of the key reasons tourists should visit the area on their website. They say: “In the words of many visitors, this city has something mystical that is difficult to describe and which varies according to the place, time of day and night.

“Whatever it is, it certainly has to do with its people, known to be generous and easy-going, as well as the River Douro and its heritage on both banks, with its bridges and monuments, the tiles, the flowering balconies and the shopping streets.”

CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays Steve Heapy, said: “We are delighted to be announcing even more good news for our Porto programme and expanding our Discover More package to the popular city break destination.

“We are seeing more customers wanting to experience it all on their holidays, whether that is adventure, culture, history or sightseeing, so this expansion of our Discover More collection is in director response to that demand.”
