New flights to Jersey have been announced from Birmingham Airport.

The announcement comes amid much scrutiny and confusion over the Government's red, amber and green lists for travel, as the next updates were eagerly awaited.

Those in the travel sector - along with Brits desperate for a getaway - have been asking for more clarity over travel rules and for more countries to be added to the green list, along with greater freedoms for those who have had both Covid vaccinations.

What are the travel rules for Jersey?

Jersey is not on the UK's own red, amber or green lists for travel. But it does apply its own red, amber and green classifications.

That's because it's in the Channel Islands, which are part of the British Isles but not within the United Kingdom.

Jersey falls within what is known as the Common Travel Area, an arrangement between the UK, the Crown Dependencies (Bailiwick of Jersey, Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man) and Ireland that is separate from the EU.

The Bailwick of Jersey includes the main island of Jersey itself, while the Bailwick of Guernsey includes the other Channel Islands of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark.

Everyone travelling to Jersey, including those from the UK, must complete the Jersey travel form no more than 48 hours before they arrive.

Travellers to the UK from Jersey do not need to complete the UK's Travel Declaration Form, as Jersey falls within the Common Travel Area.

England is currently classified as green in Jersey but from June 29 it will be reclassified as red due to rising Covid rates.

Green arrivals in Jersey need to follow these rules:

  • Testing on arrival and day 8
  • Isolation until first negative test result (on average received within 12 hours)
  • You can provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, which means you won't need to be tested on arrival or isolate
  • If you've been fully vaccinated in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Guernsey or Isle of Man you'll need a test on arrival but won't need to isolate

Red arrivals in Jersey need to follow these rules:

  • Testing on arrival, day 5 and day 10
  • Isolation until day 10 negative test results.
  • You can provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, which means you won't need to be tested on arrival but will still need to be tested on day 5 and day 10, and isolate until day 10 negative test resutts.
  • If you've been fully vaccinated in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Guernsey or Isle of Man you'll need a test on arrival and isolate until your first negative test result. You'll also be tested on day 8

Those who are travelling to Jersey from the UK do not need to quarantine when they come back home.
