'The Night Before Christmas': Prince Charles leads stars in poem recital
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have teamed up with a star-studded cast of British actors to recite the festive poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
The members of the ensemble, comprised of both upcoming and iconic actors, each read a line of the traditional poem. Maggie Smith, Joanna Lumley, Penelope Keith, Tomy Hardy and Ncuti Gatwa followed the Prince's opening lines and added a touch of their own theatrical style to the poem.
The poem recital is in support of the Actors' Benevolent Fund, a charity of which the Prince has been a patron for almost 21 years.
Video TranscriptPRINCE CHARLES: 'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
CAMILLA, DUCHESS OF CORNWALL: The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.
NCUTI GATWA: The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.
MAGGIE SMITH: And mama in her kerchief and I in my cap had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.
PENELOPE KEITH: When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
TOMY HARDY: Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
NCUTI GATWA: The moon on the breast of the newly fallen snow gave the luster of midday to objects below.
JOANNA LUMLEY: When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.
