Joey Barton: Bristol Rovers manager and former Premier League footballer charged with assault after woman suffers head injury
Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton has been charged with assault by beating after a woman suffered a head injury.
Barton, a former Premier League footballer, is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday.
The charge relates to an incident which took place at a residential property in Kew on Wednesday 2 June.
Barton, 38, made Premier League appearances for Manchester City, Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers during his playing career.
He made his one and only appearance for the England national side in 2007.
Barton became manager of League One side Fleetwood Town in 2018 before taking over League Two club Bristol Rovers in 2021.
He appeared as a panellist on the BBC's political debate show Question Time in 2014, and also spoke about his life and career in an address to the Cambridge Union in 2018.
