Emmerdale star quits acting to campaign against Covid - Liverpool Echo

A former Emmerdale actor has quit acting to campaign against Covid rules.

John Bowe is known to fans of the long-running soap for his portrayal of Lawrence White from 2014 - 2018.

The 71-year-old announced the career news on Twitter during a heated discussion with anti-vaxxers.

He said: "I have left my 50 year career behind. My family is suffering emotionally and financially because of my stand. But I am determined to stop this s***show.

"I have joined @reformparty_uk and I am in constant dialogue with the leadership because I see this as a way out of this hell."

The actor, who hails from Greasby on the Wirral, is also known to soap fans for his role as Duggie Ferguson in Coronation Street.

He has been vocal on social media about his stance against the restrictions implemented to halt the spread of Coronavirus.

However, the actor also took to the platform to say how he "nearly died" after contracting Covid last year.

John tweeted in April 2020: "I have nearly died twice in my life. Once just last week.

"The gauze between life and death is extremely thin and oh so easy to pass through."

He continued: "Beware the fickleness, selfishness and stupidity of the masses. Come on UK. We’re better than this.

"Stand firm and strong behind our leaders who, together with us, are trying to find a way through this vicious clinging swamp. #StayHomeSaveLives."
