'Hoping The Queen of England makes an apology to the people of Ireland today for Ed Sheeran signing 'Raglan Road' on #JoolsHollandlast night'

Ed Sheeran has come under fire from viewers tuning in to Jools Holland Hootenanny.

The "Perfect" singer, 30 appeared on the festive BBC programme on New Year's Eve to perform Luke Kelly's Raglan Road - one of the most famous Irish folk song.

Although a wave of Hootenanny fans were disappointed and lambasted his performance on social media.

One viewer accused the singing sensation of 'murdering' the song.

Twitter used Seamus said: "Love Jools Holland and his New Year Show, but for duck sake, if 2021 wasn’t bad enough he started 2022 with Vic Reeves singing out of tune and Ed Sheeran murdering Raglan Road…"

Another said: "Don't ever touch Raglan Road again."

Overheard in Dublin tweeted: "The butchering of Raglan Road on Jools Holland makes Gomorrah feel like a comedy!"

Other viewers however were impressed with the line up of the show which included Ed Sheeran, Lulu and Craig David.

One person said: "Jools Holland is the highlight of my New Year. The wife will sleep through it and my daughters will be having a drink and watching a couple of films downstairs."
