‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Brings the Original Gang Back Together
Jurassic World Dominion promises to be the epic conclusion to the commercially successful reboot trilogy launched in 2015 by Colin Trevorrow. While Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom may have been a lukewarm sequel, it set the stage for something much bigger. Because the finale unites two generations of the Jurassic era for the first time in the film franchise’s history.
It’s pretty much the team up that every Jurassic Park and Jurassic World fan has been waiting to see as Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) are joined by Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). What could possibly go wrong for the five of them as they and the rest of the world live amongst dinosaurs?
The trailer description reveals that Jurassic World Dominion is set four years after Fallen Kingdom. Humans find themselves adjusting to a new way of life now that dinosaurs are free to roam the earth as they please. Their presence upsets the fragile ecosystem and strips humans of superiority over animals. But as they try to survive some are harboring secrets that could disrupt humanity’s survival, while others appear to have a darker agenda.
Of course, it wouldn’t be much of a Jurassic World film without a few good chases and humans trying to avoid being a dinosaur’s next meal. The trailer teases plenty of that and hints at a throwback to a dinosaur that we would not want to run into in a dark alley. Some new dinosaurs will also be introduced to the franchise, making them a considerable threat to Owen and the gang.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Jurassic World Dominion:
From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live — and hunt — alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
Jurassic World Dominion also stars DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Scott Haze (Minari), and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). In addition, the film’s returning cast includes BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, and Omar Sy as Barry Sembenè.
It will be interesting to see where the Jurassic film franchises goes from here. After all, for a film franchise that has grossed over $1.7 billion, one would think that Universal Pictures would like to see more of them instead of leaving it to collect dust like a dinosaur bone display in a museum. We will just have to wait and see what happens next.
Jurassic World Dominion opens in theaters on June 10, 2022.
