Bake Off viewers call for justice after crushing moment in the tent and make final claim
Fans tuned in to the Channel 4 show to watch the semi-final of the baking competition

Viewers of The Great British Bake Off were left in shock after a firm favourite missed out on the final.

On Tuesday night, fans tuned in to watch the semi-final of the baking competition with Crystelle, Guiseppe, Juergen and Chigs all left to battle it out.

It was pâtisserie week on the Channel 4 show with the remaining four bakers asked to make intricate layered slices in the Signature, a technical sablé breton tart, and themed entremet display for the big showstopper.

But before the result was revealed, there was a brutal moment in the tent that fans couldn't recover from.

For the first time in the show's history, judge Paul Hollywood dished out the most handshakes ever given in one challenge.

Chigs, Chrystelle and Giuseppe all received the coveted 'Hollywood handshake' for their layered slices in the first challenge - but Juergen heartbreakingly missed out.

And Bake Off viewers were not happy.

"Paul giving everyone but jurgen a handshake is a hate crime #gbbo," @NicolaPewsey tweeted.

@TomFahy93 said: "Jurgen not getting a handshake has done me in #gbbo."

"Paul has done Jurgen dirty this week, the handshake snub alone was filth. #GBBO," @DaveyCCC added.

@AsmahMahmood fumed: "HE DIDN'T GIVE JURGEN A HANDSHAKE! THE AUDACITY! #GBBO."

@katie_baggott commented: "Jurgen not getting a handshake has broken me, someone give this man a hug #GBBO."

Many felt the writing was on the wall for Jurgen to leave following the crushing moment early in the show.

After he was chosen to leave the tent, angry Bake Off viewers took to social media to make a claim about the final.

Will said: "Won’t be watching the final now! Voting off Juergen."

"Refusing to watch the #GBBO final. How DARE THEY send Jürgen home," @amyravennn tweeted.

@hopekcbs shared: "#GBBO BOYCOTTING THE FINAL BECAUSE I AM ANGRY #JURGEN IS THE REAL WINNER."

@MsGail2107 echoed: "Don’t think I want to watch the final of bake off now not the same without #jurgen He’s the true #GBBO champion."

@gracebonnar said: "WE SHOULD BOYCOTT THE FINAL BECAUSE JURGEN WONT BE THERE #GBBO."

As he left, Jurgen said he was "kind of ok" and that he "saw it coming."

Taking to Instagram with a snap of himself giving a thumbs up, he wrote: "Thank you so much for all your support! Sad as it is to leave the tent at this point I am immensely proud on what I have achieved TOGETHER with all the other bakers!

"We helped each other where we could, and just had the best time ever! Congratulations to #starbaker @crystellepereira and to @thelatebloomeruk and @giuseppecooks for being in the final. Well deserved!"

And the post quickly gathered 'Justice for Juergen' comments.
