Kadarius Toney not expected to play in Super Bowl 2024 after Instagram drama
The only place Kadarius Toney may be active Sunday is on Instagram.
ESPN.com reported that the controversial receiver is not expected to play in Super Bowl 2024 against the 49ers, despite being taken off the Chiefs injury report this week.
Toney has not played since Week 15 and created a stir during the AFC Championship game when he said he was “not hurt” during a expletive-filled Instagram Live video, despite the team saying he was out with a hip injury, as well as personal reasons.
Toney claimed the audio was edited to seem like he was attacking the Chiefs, and oddly blamed Giants fans for the fiasco.
“It made it like I was attacking the one I love the most,” Toney, who was drafted in the first round by the Giants in 2021 and has feuded with the fanbase since he was traded to the Chiefs last season, said on Monday night.
“I never attacked the Chiefs. Never said anything about the Chiefs. Who I was referring to was the Giants fans, whoever people who might come at my live recording. I was referring to them, which I shouldn’t have.”
Toney, 25, has undeniable talent and has flashed big-play potential the rare times — he’s played 32 games over four seasons — he has been healthy.
That was on display in last season’s Super Bowl win over the Eagles — when Toney scored a touchdown to put the Chiefs up 28-27 and then had a Super Bowl record 65-yard punt return to set up another score in Kansas City’s 38-35 triumph.

However, he was plagued by drops this season, including a disastrous season-opening performance against the Lions.
Toney was also ruled offsides on a potential game-deciding touchdown against the Bills in Week 14.
On the play, Travis Kelce brilliantly lateraled the ball across the field to Toney for an easy score. Officials ruled, though, that Toney had lined up offsides.
Toney would only play one more game in the season.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid had been non-committal about Toney’s availability all week.
“We’ll see how that goes,” Reid said on Tuesday. “He’s been practicing, and we’ll just see whether he’s up.”
