Katie Boulter has been knocked out of the French Open in the first-round, ending the British interest at Roland Garros.

The British No.1 was defeated by Paula Badosa 6-4, 5-7, 4-6.

Despite winning the first set, Boulter, couldn’t overcome former world No.2, with the Spaniard set to face Yulia Putintseva in the second-round.

It was nevertheless an entertaining match and a good performance from Boulter with the world No.26 making her French Open debut.

It means that all six Brits competing in the singles have been eliminated in just the first three days of the tournament.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dan Evans was knocked out after losing in straight sets to 13th seed Holger Rune (6-4, 6-4, 6-4).

Andy Murray, in what was most likely his final French Open appearance before retirement, exited the competition on Sunday after losing in straight sets to Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 6-4, 6-2).

Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Harriet Dart were the others to be eliminated on clay.

27-year-old Boulter will however be back in action on Wednesday in the women’s doubles alongside fellow Brit Heather Watson, while Evans and Murray will also compete in the men’s doubles together.

Evans was left fuming with the officials after his defeat to Rune, saying: ‘I’m fed up with the umpires, full stop.

‘It was just a chat – and I’m waiting to serve. It’s freezing on the court, the match was flowing great and then it just stopped in the middle and I don’t understand.

‘That’s not the reason I lost. That’s just part of the issue, part of the problem, but he [the umpire] will be back in work again tomorrow.’
