Katie Piper in A&E dash for emergency surgery after she choked on food

atie Piper was rushed to a London hospital for an emergency procedure after she choked on food.

From her hospital bed, the mother updated her one million Instagram fans on Tuesday about her A&E trip.

The activist, 37, reassured her loyal fans the procedure had gone “very well” and she was even able to eat ice cream which she said was “heavenly”.

Speaking candidly, she told her fans she rushed to the hospital on Sunday when she was unable to swallow her own saliva after choking on food.

She wrote in an Instagram post: “SO, on Sunday I choked on some food which led to spasms in my oesophagus, which meant it closed up, meaning I couldn’t swallow even my own saliva and ended up in A&E for an emergency procedure on my oesophagus (not the way to start a week).

“I’ve got a long history of treatment with my oesophagus, I’ve got three strictures of tight scar tissue from what happened previously and this is something I’ve been aware of but hasn’t happened in years.

“The procedure went very well and I just ate ice cream which felt heavenly! Huge thank you to the NHS doctors and nurses that did she an incredible job and were so attentive. Now for a restful day.”

She has had to endure more than 400 surgeries after she was a victim of a horrific acid attack which left her blind in one eye in 2008.

Later in her hospital bed, Ms Piper continued to update her following on her recovery as she thanked the nurses and doctors.

She told fans: “I’ve just come out and drank the best orange juice in the entire world. It feels so good to be able to drink liquids!

“Oh my God, the NHS are just amazing, amazing nurses doctors everybody, amazing.”
