Kings of Leon take swipe at The Killers on BBC The One Show
Kings of Leon stars Caleb and Jared Followill were guests on the BBC's The One Show on Thursday where they teased that they think The Killers' music is not that great

Kings of Leon have hinted they have a secret feud with The Killers - after taking an unexpected swipe at them.

The chart-topping American rock band - composed of brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followill along with cousin Marrow Followill - are currently promoting their upcoming ninth studio album, titled Can We Please Have Fun, and their forthcoming UK arena tour. They have been on the music scene since 2003, topping the charts in the UK six times with their albums and with their huge Number One hit single Sex on Fire in 2008.

Fellow American band The Killers have been around for a similar amount of time - landing on the music scene in 2004 with all seven of their albums to date reaching Number in the UK, but they have never topped the UK singles chart. On Thursday, Kings of Leon stars Caleb, 42, and Jared, 37, appeared on The One Show and took an unexpected swipe at their fellow Americans - teasing the possibility of a secret feud.

Asked if they ever play unreleased tracks to fans before the release date, Jared told hosts Alex Jones, 47, and Roman Kemp, 31, that he does sometimes test out new material on unsuspecting members of the public. He said: “You can’t let the cat out of the bag too much. So I’ll sneak it on in, like, an Uber or at a party or something. You put the aux on and just play a new song. And it’s a good way to get boots on the ground intel.”

He then smirked: “If they think it’s good I’ll tell them after ‘Maybe that was us.’ And if they don’t like it, I’ll tell them it’s the new Killers song.” While on the show, Caleb reflected on the first time the band ever performed in the UK - sharing that they played a strip joint in High Wycombe. He said: “I remember. It was strange. The end of it was a blur, but when we got there, the place that we were playing in it had something different in there during the day involving ladies.

“So when we got there and they were like ‘Here’s your dressing room’ and we got in there and could smell these flowery lotions and things and we were like ‘What is this during the day?’ And I think it was a gentlemen’s club. But that night it was a rock and roll show.”

Teasing their upcoming tour - which includes a headline slot at the iconic BST Hyde Park festival in London on Sunday 30 June, Jared said: ”We haven’t gotten too deep into it but Hyde Park is special to us… We will definitely have some special things there and songs we don’t always play.”

The One Show viewers were thrilled to see the brothers appearing on the evening talk show. Taking to X, one fan wrote: “Kings of Leon on The One Show is so random but I’m here for it." A second penned: "I thought the Kings of Leon interview on The One Show might be awkward but the boys were well behaved lol."
